Malanjum should be made next Chief Judge of Malaysia

Chin Teck Ming
KOTA KINABALU: Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) supreme council member Chin Tek Ming supported the call for Chief Judge of Sabah and Sarawak Tan Sri Richard Malanjun to be made the next Chief Judge of Malaysia.

“I fully support this proposal because Sabah never given a chance to be appointed as Chief Justice since 1963. It is high time for the federal government to show Malaysia particularly Sabah that Sabahan also can hold that position,” said Chin who is also PBS Luyang division chief.

Before this, he said Tan Sri Abdul Gani Patail became the first Sabahan to hold the position of the Attorney-General of Malaysia from 2002 to 2015.

According to Chin who is also a practising lawyer that status of the Chief Judge of Malaya and Chief Judge of Sabah and Sarawak are actually of equal standing under the Federal Constitution which is number three in the rung.

“I think it is high time we correct the standing because the Chief Judge of Sabah and Sarawak was put as number four in the rung,” called Chin.

“If the federal government recognises and respect the significance of Sabah and Sarawak as being the equal partners in the formation of Malaysia.

“I think it is high time for the people from this Bornean states to helm the highest position in the apex court of Malaysia,” suggested Chin.

Chin was concurring with the suggestions made by two prominent retired judges who vouched for Malanjun suitability for the post of Malaysian Chief Justice following its incumbent Tun Arifin Zakaria’s retirement next March.

Retired Court of Appeal Judge Datuk Mohd Hishamudin Mohd Yunus said in the context of the Malaysian spirit he is looking forward for Malanjun to be appointed to the topmost post as he had the seniority and qualities required to occupy the position.

Retired Federal Court Judge Datuk Seri Gopal Sri Ram noted West Malaysian Ismail Khan and Lee Hun Hoe had served as Chief Judge of Sabah and Sarawak before and now is time to have East Malaysian as Chief Justice.-AG

Fresh pesticide-free highland vegetables at Bornion

Some of the vegetables available
MOST of us are health conscious and wants to consume good fresh food untainted by herbicide and pesticide. We think longingly of the olden days when manure was very natural to say the least. However it later became easier to just buy the fertilizers and spread them over our vegetable patches.

We have since learned that the best vegetables and potatoes are not necessarily the largest and the juiciest but those that are grown naturally, not sprayed by pesticides or fertilised by chemical-based fertilisers.

Those of us who wants to consume  Chemical free vegetables and potatoes can now purchase them  from  a farmer's store located at Lot 15, Ground Floor at Bornion Centre, Luyang.

The store which opened officially for business on Oct 27 welcomes consumers daily from 7am to 4pm, except on Wednesday.

Spokesman for the store, Norazman Jamdin said the vegetables are acquired from contract farmers who apply organic farming in their agricultural endeavors.

The farmers who cultivate their farms on the highland of Bundu Tuhan utilize high-nutrient organic fertilizer produced by Glomus Ecology, which is odorless and pathogen-free, he stressed.

According to him, they supply the outlet three times a week depending on market demand.

Norazman Jamdin
He shared that vegetable prices are very affordable as compared to other similar products in the market, adding that there are more than ten types of vegetables on sale as well as a few variety of highland rice.

The outlet which can accommodate up to 15 people at any one time hopes to promote awareness on the goodness of organic food to consumers while supporting a healthy eating lifestyle, he added.

He said the site was chosen for its conducive and convenient position for shoppers.

Also available in the shop are Glomus Ecology natural fertilizers which are sold in user friendly packs.

This means that consumers do not only have a choice of vegetables in the store but acquire the fertilizer for their own use. They can even start their own vegetable patch in their backyard. With the Glomus products they can hope to enjoy luscious vegetables from their own garden. -AG.

Better WiFi access at KKIA, thanks to Sunner

Fatimah (right) receiving a memento from a
Sunner Executive Gary Chia
KOTA KINABALU: Being an avid traveller, I love to land in new airports as they always have their own identity. It is also because I am very happy to land on Terra firma.
However, every time I land on an airport I like to contact my friends and family, just to tell them that I reached my destination and that I am  safe and fine. I take it for granted that they might want to know.
However I am often disappointed at airports as the WiFi are not always good. SMS are not always conducive too as it is very expensive to send them, even in the nearest country like Singapore.
Travellers to Sabah via Kota Kinabalu International Airport (KKIA) are assured that they will not have a problem as the Sunner Group have installed their Sunner WiFi Hotspot there.
It is a free based WiFi solution that will help indoor venues, to provide their visitors will immediate WiFi hotspot service.
Entrepreneur Datuk Fatimah Shara Ahmad Noor, who launched the services commented that this facility is very helpful and will ensure that travellers can contact their loved ones, or call for services as soon as they land at the airport, without any problems.
She also commended the company for their innovative ideas in ensuring that the needs of travellers and the general public as a whole are met.
Lets hope all airports have this services in future.- AG

Tamu Besar to be held in Kota Belud

Colourful Bajau Horsemen- Pic Sabah Tourism
KOTA KINABALU: The Tamu or traditional market is one of the people's unique culture seen in Sabah. This event held every ten days or weekly, depending on the districts, is where the Kadazandusun people come together to sell their farm produce.
Their farm produce in the olden days would usually be vegetables garnered from the jungle and rice as well as rattan and resins.
Nowadays some of those produce can still be acquired including yams, potatoes, maize, riverine fish and vegetables, among many others. However in the tamu ground more items are being sold such as plastic wares, clothes, shoes, kitchen utensils and even livestock such as chicken and ducklings. In some places like Kota Belud, they even sell cows and buffaloes.
Speaking of Kota Belud, on Oct 22 to 23, a tamu besar will be held there, which actually means Grand Tamu. This annual event is the biggest traditional tamu in the State,
It is an event not to be missed as there will be several events such as buffalo race,  the Sarempak queen beauty pageant and the parade of pony riders comprised of the Bajaus, proudly known as the Cowboys of the East.
If you want to watch all these interesting and colourful activities, while doing your marketing, you should come early.
So make time that weekend to get a glimpse of the people's way of life. -AG
